Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults) – Do you want to get your first care job? If you want to make a difference or have always dreamed of working in Health and Social Care then this course is for you.

  • This course is ideally suited to those hoping to work in Health and Social care, or who would like to go on to further study.
  • You might find it easier to complete a Level 2 Diploma in a related subject, but this is not compulsory.

Each unit within the Diploma has a credit rating. Learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits to gain the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England.  28 credits must be achieved from all nine mandatory units.

  • Unit 3: Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
  • Unit 4: Introduction to Duty of Care in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
  • Unit 5: Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
  • Unit 6: The Role of the Health and Social Care Worker
  • Unit 7: Implement Person Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care
  • Unit 8: Contribute to Health and Safety in Health and Social Care
  • Unit 9: Handle Information in Health and Social Care Settings

Depending on your interests or role in the workplace there is a vast range of optional units to complement the skills and knowledge that you’ll gain in the mandatory units. It’s important to note that optional units need to be specific to each learner to ensure that their job role and work context enable them to meet the assessment criteria and requirements of the unit.

This is a vocational qualification with between 319 and 396 guided learning hours. During this time you can expect to be involved in formal learning activities which could include:

  • Classes
  • Tutorials or seminars
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Supervised practical work in the workplace and assessment where an Assessor is present

This qualification focuses on the development of your skills and knowledge, supporting your progression within or entry to work in, the Health and Social Care sector.

  • The qualification is competency based so there is requirement for assessment in a real work environment.
  • Learners need to complete sufficient hours to enable them to develop and evidence their skills.
  • Assessment should follow the Skills for Care and Development RQF Assessment Principles.
  • A portfolio will be presented for assessment. The types of assessment may include: evidence tracking sheets, assessor observations – completed observation checklists and associated action plans, witness testimonies, projects, reports, professional discussion, oral and written questioning, candidate and peer reports, recognition of prior learning.

Successful candidates will receive a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (501/2318/X) from NCFE, an awarding body within England and Wales who are currently recognised by Ofqual and the Department for Education and Skills.

  • While there are no specific qualifications needed to take this course, learners might find it useful if they have already completed a Level 1 Diploma in a related subject.
  • Learners must be aged at least 16 or over to undertake the qualification and should have a good grasp of the English Language, numeracy, literacy, and ICT.
  • Guidance and advice from a professional tutor while studying.
  • Should you want to work in Health and Social Care, or go on to further study in a particular area, like mental health nursing, this course provides a stepping stone.
  • Proven competence for roles such as Care Assistants, Support Workers, Healthcare Assistant etc.
  • As the course is online, you can study at your own pace, wherever you like.

Assignments (Portfolio) are submitted electronically (online) via your online study platform.

Successful completion of the qualification will allow you to succeed in any of the following:
