Be Honest

Not only is it morally wrong to mislead your customers, it will lose you customers in the long run, and could hurt your business. Being on a sales team puts you in a unique situation, as you are a representative of your company, if you’re dishonest they simply won’t return. If a customer feels they can trust you, they are much more likely to keep coming back.

Know your product

You might be the best sales person in the universe, if you aren’t clued up about your product, you won’t sell. Take the time to get to know your product, use it yourself, and find out how it performs. A customer is much more likely to buy from someone who knows what they’re talking about, and who can give them that extra little bit of advice. Customers today are savvy and will often do a lot of research before spending their hard earned cash on something, so make sure you know your stuff.

Know your customer

Take the time to get to know your customer’s needs. Ask open ended questions, build rapport, and get a full picture of their needs. This will not only help you to advise them accurately, it shows them that you take your job seriously, and you want to give them the best service.

Be approachable

If customers don’t feel like they can approach you or engage in conversation with you, they won’t, and as a result you’ll lose sales. To truly become successful in a sales position being present is not enough, it’s crucial to make a good impression from the very beginning. Greet customers as they enter, engage in small talk, offer your assistance, and make yourself available to your customers.
